New Practitioner FAQ

Why this matters: your first week with any new platform is when you're most likely to hit a question that feels urgent but isn't documented anywhere obvious yet — not because the answer is complicated, but because it's scattered across a dozen feature-specific pages you haven't found yet. This page is a shortcut past that: the handful of things every new practitioner asks, answered in one place, with links to go deeper wherever you need to.

What is Mavvrik?

Mavvrik is a cost intelligence platform that gives you visibility and control over spend across cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI), Kubernetes, GenAI/AI services, and SaaS — all in one place, rather than piecing it together from separate provider consoles and bills. Beyond just showing you what you spent, Mavvrik surfaces savings recommendations, tracks commitments (Reserved Instances and Savings Plans), lets you allocate shared costs across teams or business units, and flags anomalies before they turn into a surprise on next month's invoice.

Where do I start?

If you're new, these are the five pages worth opening first — everything else in the space builds on top of these:

  1. Overview — your single-page snapshot of overall spend and trends across every connected provider.

  2. Cost — the detailed cost-exploration dashboard: filter, break down, and drill into spend by any dimension (service, account, region, tag).

  3. Savings — every cost-saving recommendation Mavvrik has surfaced for your environment, plus the settings that control which ones show up.

  4. Perspectives — reusable saved filters you define once and apply across cost views, budgets, and alerts.

  5. Cost Allocations — how to split shared or ambiguous costs across teams, business units, or projects so everyone sees an accurate number.

Common first-week questions

Quick answers to things that come up often, with links to the full explanation:

  • Why does my Savings number not match between two views? Cost Field, Savings Field, and Commitment Term are three independent settings — if they're set differently in the two places you're comparing, the totals won't match. See Savings — Cost Options.

  • Why do I see the same resource twice in Cost Variance? A resource billed under more than one pricing type in the same period (e.g., part Reserved Instance, part on-demand) shows as separate rows, one per pricing type. See Cost Variance.

  • Why wasn't a small inefficiency flagged as a recommendation? By default, there's no minimum savings threshold — every recommendation with positive savings is shown. If one's missing, check whether an admin has configured a Savings Threshold that's filtering it out. See Savings — Threshold Settings.

  • Why did a recommendation disappear even though nothing changed on the resource? Recommendations use a rolling lookback window (the exact number of days varies by recommendation type). A resource can drop out of consideration purely because the window moved forward, with no change to the resource itself. See Standard Recommendations for the specific window used by each recommendation type.

  • I manage multiple customer tenants — how do I ask about a specific one via MCP? Name the tenant in your question to scope the answer to that customer, or ask without naming one to get your own rolled-up portfolio view. See Introduction — Using MCP Across Multiple Tenants.
